Sorry again, no comic today. Instead, an random event that could only happen in LA. An event that could easily happen to anyone else, but happens only to me. It is my destiny, and I face it fully aware, yet disappointingly resigned. Why? Because it will go on, the masses remain unaware to the evils that I protect them from by sheer value of my existence as way of a crap filter before life ever makes it to your doorstep:

I am walking in Union Station when a guy pulls me aside and says, "Hey... Fuck you, buddy!"

I reply, "Excuse me?"

He takes a step back and makes a circling motion with his hands to in a way, circumscribe me and retorts, "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck...", then the hand motion turns into a series of fingers jabbing in my general direction, "yooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!"

I reply, "What?" At this point I think he is just crazy.

He stops and very calmly says, "Think about it you little @$$hole. You are one worthless piece of sh!t."

I again reply, "What are you talking about?"

He pauses a brief moment, looking genuinely confused with me, and then closes with, "And the worst part is that you don't even know it yet." Here he just walks off and slowly shakes his head side-to-side.

So... I stand there, befuddled for a few minutes when it finally hits me regarding what just happened. I just got insulted on a very personal level by a time traveler. I think something I did in the future, pissed him off, that he went all the way back to 2009 just to make me feel bad. He obviously didn't have anything else to do on his trip as he just kind of sauntered off, vaguely in the direction of the wall.

Now the alternative explanation is that he was just crazy or an @$$-face and picked someone randomly to harass. That is certainly possible, and I am not discounting it. It is just easier for my brain to believe in the time traveler than the notion that it took me 24 years to randomly run into someone THIS crazy.

So... I think I disappointed his younger future self at some point. I am not quite sure what to make of all his aside from the fact that I have had, have now, and will continue to have a very, bordering on insane, weird life.

Tim Making Friends

No comic today, just me sharing my adventures in trying to get some friends. Long story short, I have friends, but they all live far away, are incredibly busy, extremely flaky, or no longer interested in hanging out with me. I am looking more for people to hang out with in the remote neighborhood. You know... friends... people I can talk with and not get incredibly bored/annoyed.

So... the mission is... how to make friends. Like any good nerd, I went to my local Google shop and searched "how to make friends". The first link is this convenient WikiHow story. Yes... I used the word story because the stuff they say doesn't actually work. Or... maybe it does, and I am just in my "I don't want to make friends so I will subconsciously sabotage myself" mode. So I decided to try out their recommendations. First on the list of non-behavioral changes (all of which I already do, much to my eternal consternation) is to use Meetup.com. I searched my zip and tried the Religion & Beliefs category because I honestly would like to meet some non-religious people roughly my same age. First on their list was this group: Intellectual Hedonism. Sounds like it could be a fun group. I like trying new food, seeing intellectually provocative art, etc. Then I searched a few events of theirs, and aside from the solo pool-party, I saw perhaps the greatest reason to stay away. Frankly, if there is one thing I lack in my life at times, it is passion. More frankly, if there is one thing I do not need in my life at any time, it is Passion. He works in the adult entertainment industry, only a vague surprise and honestly not the deal-breaker. He is a writer and has a wide range of interests... moms specifically... multiple times... Just sayin...

So... I will continue my search for ways of making friends. I feel like I am dating all over again... but like... platonically dating... guys or girls... must be capable of having a decent conversation, be reasonably interesting, and willing to not think that someone specifically looking to make friends is weird... because it is for some reason known to everyone else but me... Maybe I should just give Passion a call... maybe he knows some friendly moms...

I am going to try to finish as many of the few ideas I have left and then see if I can keep doing the comic after that. Frankly, I am running out of ideas that strike me as funny. Maybe my sense of humor is changing, maybe I used up all my good ideas, maybe none of them were never funny to begin with and I am finally getting that. No clue! At some point though, I thought most of these ideas were funny enough to warrant writing down. Then, at another point, I have to reread those ideas. And when I read, everybody is a winner!

El Paso - Not So Good

I have been tinkering with this idea for a while after noticing that nothing is ever said about the city of El Paso. For those of you not in the "Know", then you should "Know" that I, while I currently reside in LA (good luck finding me now stalker!) was born and raised in El Paso. Over the years, most people I have talked to refer to El Paso as "that place I drove through... once... I think". Since coming here, I have found it exceedingly rare that any national news mentions the city, but more importantly, I have seen how no body every says anything a) nice, b) positive, or c) not based on some 100 year old "Old West" stereotype of the city. If I ever get around to it, I will put up some of my favorite shout outs for El Paso, but here is the most recent one which caught my eye.

Police handcuff news crew covering traffic accident

Long story short, a reporter is with his cameraman, reporting a crash on the high way. The police single him out, and demand that he stops filming. He says that he is just observing (as he was, just like the crowd around him), and the police arrest him.

Good times! You stay classy, El Paso! The only way this city can get a national nod is by being a place you wouldn't want to live. Yay!

Why I Hate Experiments

I am taking a 10 minute sanity break from another all-nighter of running experiments. Here is roughly how each day works:

8AM Wake up, get ready. Fresh as a daisy!
9AM At School
10AM Pig eyes, used for my experiments, arrive
11AM Still waiting
12PM Still... waiting...
1PM It turns out, the eyes had arrived at 11AM but the girl at the front counter had moved them without telling anybody. I just wasted the past two hours of what is going to be a very... very... long day
2PM Finished preparing my tissue samples
2:30PM Finished waiting for the machine to do its start up routine
3PM Finished all my calibrations and boundary conditions for my samples while within the machine
4PM Finish first set of tests for the day. This is off to a great start!
5PM Machine has been giving me bad data for the past hour.
6PM Cleaned machine, reset it, reset it and recleaned it, all to no avail.
7PM Machine starts working again for about 10 minutes then bad data returns
7:15PM Computer crashes and has to be restart
8PM Finished restarting computer, redoing calibrations, boundary conditions, and ensuring that the system is ready to go
9PM Bad data returns, but finished second set of tests. Instead of breaking the $300k+ machine, decide on dinner break.
9:30PM Return to machine for more experiments
10PM Bad data again...
11PM Cleaned machine, reset it, reset it and recleaned it, all to no avail.
11:15PM Notice that my hands are starting to shake
11:30PM Machine crashes anyway...
12AM PSP runs out of batteries... no more entertainment for the night
1:15AM Finished restarting computer, redoing calibrations, boundary conditions, and ensuring that the system is ready to go
1:30AM Back starting to hurt
2:30AM Finish third set of tests as machine decides to work this time
2:45AM Realize that the conversation I heard in the other room what entirely in my head as I am, and have been alone for the past 6 hours. Yay! Hallucinations!
3-4AM Finish final set of tests. Clean up everything.
4AM Find transportation back to apartment without getting mugged
4:30AM Finally get to apartment
5:30AM Sunrise
5:45AM Bedtime after getting some food, taking a shower, and reading the day's news. Oh wait... the computer has been off the entire time. Yay! Hallucinations!
8AM Wake up, get ready. Fresh as a daisy!
